Alabama Passes Toughest Immigration Bill To Date

Alabama’s governor signed a bill into law that may likely be the nation’s toughest State immigration bill to date. The bill will take effect on September 1, 2011. Among other things, the bill requires police to check the status of anyone they suspect may be in the country illegally when stopped for any other reason.

The bill also makes it a crime to provide transportation or housing to an illegal immigrant or to employ an illegal immigrant. The elements of this new law pose chilling scenarios. For example, a U.S. citizen married to an undocumented immigrant is breaking the law by living with and providing for his wife or her husband.

Incredibly, the bill also requires the State to check the immigration status of students. Young children will be deprived of an education.
