The EU & Turkey Sign Immigration Deal

The European Union and Turkey signed an immigration agreement, which obligates Turkey to readmit illegal immigrants who entered European countries through Turkey. In exchange for the readmission agreement, the EU will allow Turkish citizens the travel Europe without visas.

Individuals involved in the signing include European Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom, EU Minister Egemen Bagis, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, and Interior Minister Muammer Guler.

The European Union and Turkey have negotiated the agreement for several years. Finally, Turkey and the EU reached an agreement that appeased both parties. According to the agreement, Turkey must take back illegal immigrants, but only as long as the EU holds up its half of the bargain and allows Turkish citizens to travel without visas.
