The President of the United States and the first lady met in Washington, D.C. with immigration activists who have been fasting since November 12th to bring attention to the lack of comprehensive immigration reform. They are only drinking water and are abstaining from all food. Members of the President’s cabinet have also visited the group.
President Obama told the group that it is not a question of whether immigration reform will pass, but how soon it will pass. He stated that politics stood in the way of comprehensive immigration reform to date. The President praised activists like the group saying that they will put more pressure on the House of Representatives to finally act and pass an immigration reform bill.
More than 11 million undocumented immigrants have been waiting for years for the government to fix the nation’s broken immigration system by passing comprehensive immigration reform.
