United States Government Deports More Than Last Year

From the Los Angeles Times, on October 6, 2010, it is reported that the Obama administration deported more people than last year according to figures released by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  The article goes on to say that about half of the deportations were immigrants with criminal records.  Still, even with a record number of deportations, anti-immigrant activists point to the fact that the administration is focusing more on aliens with criminal records and not deporting enough people.  Even the ICE employees union voted a “no confidence” in the agency’s leadership because the strategy focuses on criminals.  Advocates of increased enforcement of the nation’s immigration laws say that the millions of immigrants living in the U.S. leaves the problem unresolved.

It is clear that, even with an increased number of deportations of criminal aliens, the administration must continue to focus on the millions of undocumented immigrants in this country who can contribute to society and who have raised families here, paid taxes, and contributed to the economy of this nation.  Immigration reform is a must do for economic and humanitarian reasons.
