It appears that Republican Marco Rubio is taking the lead for the party in trying to attract Hispanic voters. He is urging a more permanent solution for the so-called DREAMers who were brought to the United States when they were minors and are now attempting to secure higher education.
Rubio has been quoted as saying, “You can be for legal immigration and not for amnesty — but you also have to understand we are speaking about human beings”.
While not going so far as to suggest immediate comprehensive immigration reform, Rubio did emphasize that the two-year DREAM Act regulation implemented by President Obama should become a more permanent solution.
Many think that Rubio is a rising star in the Republican Party who will help them connect with Hispanic voters. This last election, however, is proof that to connect they will have to take concrete steps to address the entire immigration issue and deal with the nearly 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States.
