ICE Arrests 271 Individuals in Immigration Crackdown

ICE Arrest

Another round of arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has left many immigrants worried about their own futures. On March 27, 2018, ICE announced that it had taken 271 individuals into custody in an enforcement action spanning the state of Florida, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. In some cases, contacting a Miami immigration lawyer can be a good first step toward resolving issues with ICE and avoiding deportation and other negative actions by this government agency.

Fewer Than Half Had Criminal Records

ICE officials reported that of the 271 people arrested, 99 had felony convictions or arrests for crimes ranging from murder and manslaughter to drug offenses and traffic offenses. This is consistent with previous ICE actions, in which individuals with no criminal records were arrested simply for being undocumented immigrants in the state of Florida and across the United States. The Enforcement and Removal Operations department of ICE worked in conjunction with Homeland Security Investigations, the Diplomatic Security Service and U.S. Customs and Border Protection to take these individuals into custody.

Protecting Yourself Against ICE Arrest

For undocumented immigrants, taking steps to resolve issues with ICE usually begins with a consultation with a Miami immigration lawyer.
