Secretary Napolitano told reporters that President Obama is anxiously awaiting a proposal from the group of democratic and republican lawmakers who have been meeting to try to hammer out a bi-partisan agreement for comprehensive immigration reform. She made the point that tying border security to immigration reform is a stalling tactic without minimizing the importance of securing our borders. Not allowing immigration reform legislation to move through the process on account of border security is counter-productive.
Unconfirmed reports are that the group working on reform is very close to consensus on a path to citizenship for the more than 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States.
