Virtual Immigration Summit Focuses on Immigration Challenges

A bipartisan virtual immigration summit on overhauling the U.S. immigration system was held on February 25, 2021. The summit was hosted and sponsored by the Immigration Partnership & Coalition Fund, which is based in the Miami-Dade area. This summit attracted a number of influential panelists, including former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikkie Fried and former Senator Mel Martinez. Miami Dade College President Emeritus Eduardo José Padrón was also on hand to participate in the virtual immigration summit, which focused on how the current system can be reformed and improved to serve Americans and immigrants better.

Reforms Are on the Way

The participants in the recent virtual immigration summit have fresh hope thanks to the election of President Joe Biden. President Biden has already been active in living up to his campaign promises and has already sent a new immigration bill to Congress that offers some important benefits for immigrants:

  • Creating a roadmap to citizenship for undocumented immigrants
  • Eliminating backlogs of visa applications and focusing on reuniting families
  • Preventing discrimination against legal immigrants based on religion
  • Improving the employment verification process to prevent exploitation of undocumented workers

These changes will help to protect immigrants already in the United States and will make it easier for families to reunite and begin building their lives in this country as legal permanent residents.
